Charity Work

  • LCFE Ltd was created in 2020 to take on the running of Primrose Hill Food Market.

LCFE is what is widely known as a ‘Social Enterprise’.

The phrase Social Enterprise covers more than one type of structure - in our case we are a Community Interest Company, which is a form of social enterprise.

To quote HMG: ‘A CIC is a special type of limited company which exists to benefit the community rather than private shareholders’

We have our own dedicated regulator (Google ‘CIC regulator’ for more information) and we must submit accounts and adhere to a range of controls and regulations.

  • Our Articles of Association are attached here.

They follow a configuration which is laid out by the regulator. This section is taken from the Articles and describes what we are about as an organisation:

The objects of the Company are to carry on activities which benefit the community and (without limitation) to focus on creating a vibrant, community orientated weekly food market.

We will be mission driven - trading for social purpose, not to maximise profit.

We aim to be profitable, but surpluses will used for wider benefit rather than just

    enriching individuals.

In the weekly market, we will:

    • Offer space for local charities to trade

    • Work with the school to develop opportunities for cross curricular activity

    • Promote ways of shopping that are packaging free

    • Promote ways of eating and cooking that are good for people and planet

We are committed to transparency, trust and cooperation throughout the organisation.

We are always open to approaches from local businesses or community groups to help us deliver against these core objectives.  To this end, we can help financially in certain situations – for example if the proposal involves a stall, we can help with rent, or give other practical support.  Please email us with any questions, or come and speak to us at the market.

  • We are constituted to distribute not less than 65% of any profit the CIC makes to good causes, or deliver against the objectives given above.
